First Year Evaluation

Hey, all. Alas, the first year over at UWE has been successfully finished! (Well, almost, since we're still awaiting feedback for the last 2 modules that we had before the year ended) I think it would be safe to assume that I passed them so I would say it's safe to celebrate the end of it all at this point already. But before I celebrate, I wanted to make a quick summary post to really reflect on this past year and summarize my experience in a few paragraphs. Coming in I didn't have many, or, to be honest, any expectations for what was on the horizon at that point, which, arguably was not a good strategy stepping into something as important as uni, however, I was not left disappointed, not in the slightest. Critical Perspectives Essay - "Behind the Jaws" (+Bibliography)

For my visual artefact, I have chosen to cover a piece of contemporary art titled “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living”, otherwise known as “The Shark”, created by Damien Steven Hirst using the funding provided by the commissioner – Charles Saatchi. The piece features a tiger shark submerged in formaldehyde, encased in a glass and steel tank. The title of the piece, according to D. Hirst himself, was (Faber and Faber, 2001) just a statement that he had used to describe the idea of death to himself, with this, the artist pushes the narrative of there being philosophical layers to his creation as opposed to it simply being a mock of an enclosure which has one of the ferocious beasts known to man encased within its bounds.
