Work Catalog Development Log #2
I initially created this illustration in early 2025, when I was first heavily remodelling my portfolio website and wanted some whimsical assets. At first, I had imagined it to be the image that would pop up when one would get a 404 error page on my website, however, during its development, I figured it's a rather backwards-way-of-thinking. Therefore, I repurposed it to have a more meaningful role - as the header image of my work catalog page.
That page sat dormant and untouched for well over a year - a bit ridiculous in hindsight, but that has actually been a recurring trend throughout every single itteration of my creative website in history.. ever.. For whatever reason, I have always gone around taking care of every other aspect like the layout, the template, the tabs, the pages, the hyperlinks, literally anything and everything else before I would even start to think of putting any substantial effort into showcasing my work.
However, I am incredibly ecstatic to share that I have finally managed to get past that point with my current website - it is now more or less ready to be shared and viewed and I could not be more relieved about that. As is a given with me - I did end up going a very roundabout way with getting it set up, but we got there in the end.
I ended up illustrating a set of icons that go along with the main five pillars of my creative practice - painting, clay work, fiber art, drawing and digital practice - and then set them up as buttons to navigate through the catalog. That, unfortunately, ended up being quite the hassle because there's really no easy way or implementing it; I find wordpress website building tools rather counterintuitive, especially with the plan that I am under, but, despite it all, I think I'm handling it relatively well.
Haven't had the chance to get on with the assignment I tasked myself with in the last post, but now that the foundation is finally set, I can start expanding upon it - the prospects of which are very exciting. This year is turning out to be the least stagnant-feeling since I've graduated from uni and there's not enough words to describe the relief that brings about. Just have to put some more effort into the consistency and it should be golden!
